Would you like to climb the Seven Summits?
We were reading an article on momondo.co.uk about 7 men and women who inspire courageous travel and we loved the story of Junko Tabei, who comes for the small town of Fukushima in Japan.
Tabei formed a climbing club for women and, at the age of 28, joined an all-women expedition to ascend Annapurna III in Nepal.
Dreams that become Goals become reality!
Five years later she was at the foot of Mount Everest, ready to conquer yet another peak. Unfortunately, inclement weather and an avalanche almost cost Tabei her life.
Mount Everest is a killer!
She had to tend a hip injury for seven days after being stuck in the snow before making the painstaking six-day South-Ridge route hike. Her endurance paid off and Junko Tabei became the first woman to stand on the summit of Mount Everest.
Tabei has conquered the seven highest mountain peaks in the world – known as the Seven Summits. This includes Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and the Carstensz Pyramid, Oceania’s highest mountain.
